Harbin Beihang University - Educational Building Expansion
Harbin, China
Harbin Beihang University is located in Harbin, China, and is an aviation service–oriented institution with approximately 2,000 students. Based on the school’s academic focus and long-term vision, the teaching building expansion is conceived around the core concept of “Takeoff,” reflecting the qualities of speed, motion, and futurity inherent in the spirit of aviation.
The overall architectural form adopts a streamlined, fluid massing strategy. Continuous horizontal lines and interwoven façade openings create a dynamic visual expression, reminiscent of an aircraft wing slicing through the air. The central atrium functions as the spatial hub of the campus, strengthening the connection between different academic programs while symbolizing a “launch platform” for students’ future careers.
While emphasizing a strong architectural identity, the design also prioritizes functional efficiency and user experience. Through clear circulation systems, abundant natural lighting, and integrated greenery, the project establishes a contemporary learning environment that balances symbolic expression with everyday comfort and usability.
